This is the first stamp issued by Great Britain on a foreign citizen (non-British) The stamp was designed by an Indian artist, Mr.Biman Mullick, who explained his philosophy of trying out a simple design to conform with Gandhiji's principles. This stamp also won the best stamp award at the first Gandhi Philatelic exhibition held in Calcutta in 1970.
